HAIR CARE - DANDRUFF
Dandruff occurs due to an imbalance between cell regeneration and cell shedding,
with a bias towards the cell shedding is the term given to the extensive
scaling of the scalp, which sometimes extends itself to the eyebrows
and is diagnosed by the flaking which takes place, which are visible
as white particles called dandruff.
There
are 3 to 4 main reasons for dandruff:
1) Lack of scalp conditioning;
2) Severe stress;
3) Continuously working under the arc lights;
4) Allergy to cosmetics;
5) Infrequent shampooing of the hair.

Symptoms of Dandruff:
The most common symptom of dandruff is scaling; itching is occasionally
present. The small white flakes are usually scattered over the hair shaft
and shoulders by scratching, brushing or combing. Infrequent washing of
the scalp causes theses flakes to stick to the hair shaft.
Stages of dandruff:
There are three likely stages of dandruff:
1) The condition may remain as a minor irritation throughout the person's
life.
2) As a result of the patchy scaling, the scalp reacts to the scruff,
by secreting a fluid, which causes the scales to stick to the
scalp and have a yellowish and waxy appearance.
3) The condition may spread to the adjacent areas of the head - midline
of the head, and to the front of the chest and back.
Treatment for dandruff:
The best way to get treated for dandruff is to oil your hair, at least 3
times a week, and wash your hair with a good anti-dandruff shampoo once
a week and a mild shampoo twice a week. Remember, an anti-dandruff shampoo
if used too often, flips the hair of its natural oil. If the dandruff does
not clear, it is better to consult a Trichologist, who will determine the
stage in which the dandruff has reached and prescribe the necessary course
of action.
